Selecting Desirable Micronutrient Fortificants for Plant-Based Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children in Low-Income Countries

This paper summarizes the steps recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to identify micronutrient shortfalls in the complementary diets of breastfed children aged 6 to 23 months, and to establish desirable levels of bioavailable fortificants for centrally processed plant-based complementary foods for infant and young child feeding.
